His Excellency José Miguel Alemán Healy

He holds a Juris Doctor from Tulane University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Ripon College, Wisconsin.

He was appointed as Ambassador of Panama to the United States by President José Raúl Mulino.

Ambassador Alemán has a strong background in public service, including serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1999 to 2003 and Vice-Minister of Government and Justice in 1991. He was Vice President of the National Committee of the Centenary (2002-2003) and a member of the Foreign Relations Council from 2009 to 2011 and from 2014 to 2019.

He spent an important part of his childhood in Washington, D.C., while his father, Roberto Alemán Zubieta, was the lead negotiator of the Robles-Johnson Treaties and then served as Ambassador of Panama to the United States (1968-69). His brother, Jaime Alemán, also served as Ambassador of Panama to the United States between 2009 and 2011.

In the private sector, Alemán was a founding partner of Arias, Alemán & Mora, where he has worked since 1987. He previously practiced law at Icaza, González-Ruiz & Alemán (1981-1987). He has also served on the boards of Multibank, Inc. (1987-2020) and Multibank Insurance Corp. (2010-2020) and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Mi Exito Financial Services (since 2015).

He has held several leadership roles in the legal community, including Vice President of the Bar Association of Panama (1990-1991) and President of the 4th National Lawyers Congress (1990).
