Costa Rican Mask Making Workshop

1:00 PM to 4:00 PM

Boruca masks are handcrafted, hand-painted, and often carved from lightweight balsa wood by the Indigenous Boruca people of southern Costa Rica, originally representing “diablitos” (little devils) in a traditional dance against Spanish invaders.

In this workshop, participants will paint their own version of a Boruca mask using reused materials. The workshop will be led by Costa Rican artist Ricardo Solis, a mixed-media artist whose work is also featured in the special Costa Rica exhibit currently on display at the Center.

Ricardo will guide participants through the process and provide materials and instruction.
