Constructed in 1912 during Pittsburgh’s creation of the Oakland educational and cultural district, our facility was originally headquarters of The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania. It was part of the City Beautiful movement when many of the major buildings for the University of Pittsburgh, Carnegie Mellon University, Carnegie Museums of Natural History and Art, Carnegie Library, and other institutions were being constructed. Purchased by the Latin American Studies Association for its headquarters in 2019, the Italian Renaissance building has been lovingly restored and renovated. The exterior is constructed of Bedford Indiana Limestone and Hauteville Marble, the same materials used for construction of the Empire State Building in New York. Door surrounds, windowsills and the exterior stone steps are of Bedford Bluestone and Pink Tennessee Marble is used extensively in the elegant interior spaces.
With a soaring ceiling, grand pillars, marble floors, and abundant natural light, the extraordinary Grand Lobby is the perfect space for a reception, party, or small dinner party.
This incredibly versatile auditorium hall and stage is an excellent venue for presentations, symposia, performances, and more. The Hall is equally spacious and lovely for receptions, dinners, and parties.
Entered through the Grand Lobby, a combo of the two spaces allows for a free-flowing event that can be set up to accommodate your needs.
This elegant room is the perfect space for a board meeting or all-day retreat. The Vista Room is outfitted with a sectional conference table, floor outlets for computers and wifi networking, as well as comfortable tables and chairs. The space works equally as well as a beautiful reception or dinner hall. Large windows provide natural lighting and a view of Oakland.
The lovely and spacious Grand Gallery on the second floor is available for your event when not in use as a museum gallery. Entry from the Vista room makes the combination an exceptional reception/dinner space. The Grand Gallery has ample outlets and wifi if needed as a meeting room, and large windows that provide an open and welcoming ambiance.
Please note: At this time The Grand Gallery is accessible only to those who can navigate three stairs.
Spaces for your event must be reserved at least one month in advance.
Currently LACC does not require that masks be worn by fully vaccinated individuals. This policy is subject to change depending of levels of community spread.
