The Latin American Studies Association (LASA) is proud to present its Spring 2026 Film Series at the Latin American Cultural Center (LACC) in Oakland.

The LACC Film Series will occur on three Thursdays between January and March 2026. All programming includes one short film and one fiction feature.

Join us in this must-see series, as we explore issues related to Latin American stories, art, culture, environmental concerns, social struggles, and points of view.

A woman affected by violence, a taxi driver, a musician, a transgender person, a couple searching for their missing son, and the experiences of a young man yearning to migrate make up the story of a Honduras where the topic of migration is constantly heard on radio and television. Amid this environment of sometimes contradictory messages, people live their daily lives with frustration, nostalgia, fear, sorrow, and hope.

Una mujer afectada por la violencia, un taxista, un músico, una persona transgénero, una pareja que busca a su hijo desaparecido y las vivencias de un joven que anhela migrar conforman la historia de una Honduras donde el tema de la migración se escucha constantemente en radio y televisión. En medio de este entorno de mensajes a veces contradictorios, las personas viven el día a día con frustración, nostalgia, miedo, dolor y esperanza.

Marcelo has devoted his life to teaching philosophy at the public university. When his mentor Professor Caselli unexpectedly dies, he hopes to become the new head of the Department. However, his plans shift when charismatic and seductive colleague Rafael returns from his pedestal in European universities to claim the vacant position for himself. Marcelo’s clumsy efforts to prove he is the right candidate will trigger a philosophical duel, while his life and the country enter a spiral of chaos.

Marcelo ha dedicado su vida a enseñar filosofía en la universidad pública. Tras el fallecimiento inesperado de su mentor, el profesor Caselli, aspira a convertirse en el nuevo director del Departamento. Sin embargo, sus planes cambian cuando su carismático y seductor colega Rafael regresa de su pedestal en las universidades europeas para reclamar la vacante. Los torpes esfuerzos de Marcelo por demostrar que es el candidato adecuado desencadenarán un duelo filosófico, mientras su vida y el país se sumen en el caos.
