LACC Film Series – Spring 2025 / Serie III

The Latin American Studies Association (LASA) is proud to introduce its Spring 2025 Film Series at the Latin American Cultural Center (LACC) in Oakland.

The LACC Film Series will occur on four Sundays between January and April 2025. All programming includes one short film and one fiction feature.

Join us in this must-see series, as we explore issues related to Latin American stories, art, culture, environmental concerns, social struggles, and points of view.

Using animated charcoal drawings on wood, this short depicts a desperate call for help of a group of policemen who are ambushed by members of organized crime. The film also shows some of the impact that drug trafficking has on society.

Feature, Fiction

A French woman of African descent manages to escape after being detained at the airport in the Dominican Republic. She takes refuge in the most dangerous neighborhood of Santo Domingo (Capotillo), where she is received by a group of children. By becoming their protégé and mother figure, she will see her destiny change inexorably.
